Homemade Fresh Fruit Salsa

Fruit salsa is an excellent side dish to fried chicken, steak and other heavy meals. What I really like about this dish you can combine different ingredients in order to obtain the flavour you desire. If the fruits are not in season, you can always find substitutes or you can use the canned version to bring life to your fruit salsa. You can always use various fruits in various amounts for this dish. In this recipe, I chose fruits based on color so it would look good. These are also my personal favorites.

Ingredients

  • 2 fresh peaches 1 ¼ cup canned
  • 1 ½ cup blackberries
  • 1 cup pineapple chunks
  • 3 kiwi fruits
  • 2 cups strawberries about 12-15 whole berries
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • 6 tbsp. apple jelly

Instructions

  1. If canned fruits are available, ensure to drain the excess juice.
  2. Slice the fruits into cubes about ½ inch square. If you cut them into smaller sizes, they may turn into slop.
  3. Combine the fruits into a bowl and mix them carefully. Do not prolong the mixing or mix vigorously or the fruits might crush.
  4. Get another bowl. Blend ½ cup of orange juice and 6 tbsp. of apple jelly.
  5. Stir the jelly-juice mix until the jelly breaks down to little pieces.
  6. Pour the mixture into the fruits and blend well until the fruits are well covered.
  7. Keep the salsa in a refrigerator for 15 minutes or 1 day to give time for the flavors to mix well. If you let the dish sit there, the fruits naturally break down releasing juices that make fruit salsa delicious. Pair it with cinnamon chips.
