The True Cost of Bottled Water

true cost of bottled water

Bottled water seems to be the American way.

We go to the grocery.

We buy a case of bottled water.

We lug it home.

We put a bottle in each child's lunch box.

We send them with a bottle to ball practice.

We watch our children grab a bottle a home when they're watching TV…even though we have perfectly good filtered water.

We repeat this scenario next week and the week after and the week after that.

What's the true cost of bottled water?

Let's do the math.

We're spending about $4 a week, $16 a month and $208 a year for WATER! Not to mention the 1248 bottles that hopefully make it to the recycling bin. In reality, only 20% are recycled. Most end up in the landfill or litter our streets and waterways.

What's the solution?

The humble, refillable water bottle.

I bought my refillable water bottle nearly 5 years ago, and I take it everywhere. I even splurged on the cute insulated carrier!

Total Cost: $37

I estimate that I fill up my bottle 5 times per day, so my 1 stainless steel bottle has replaced 9125 plastic bottles over the course of 5 years. WOW!

If you give up bottled water…

You’ll save your money!

You’ll save the earth!

You’ll save your back from lugging another case of bottled water in from the car!

The only downside…you’ll have to wash them everyday, so a bottle brush will come in handy!
