I've made over 200 Chocolate Kahlua Cakes in the past 18 years...yummy! Typically, The Budget Diet Girl shares frugalicious and fast recipes. This one is frugal because it's cheaper and better than any food gift you can buy. This one is delicious...trust me! This one is not fast...sorry!

Ingredients

  • Cake Ingredients:
  • 1 box Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix substitute Devil's Food if you can find Chocolate Fudge
  • 1 small package of instant Chocolate Fudge Pudding Mix substitute Chocolate if necessary
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup Kahlua
  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee dissolved in 1/2 cup of hot water
  • 12 oz. package of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Glaze Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/8 cup water
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup Kahlua
  • Frosting Ingredients:
  • 4 oz. semi-sweet chocolate squares
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 6 tablespoons whipping cream
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cake Instructions:
  2. Grease and flour a 10-inch bundt pan or 3, 6-inch bundt pans.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, stir together cake mix, pudding mix and sugar.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine sour cream, eggs, oil, Kahlua and coffee - beat on low for 1 minute.
  5. Pour liquid ingredients into dry ingredients - beat on high 4 minutes.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips.
  7. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  8. Bake at 325º for 1 hour (40 minutes if you're making 3, 6-inch bundt cakes) or until cake springs back when lightly touched.
  9. Cool in pan for 30 minutes.
  10. Glaze Instructions:
  11. After cake has cooled in pan for 20 minutes, prepare glaze.
  12. Melt butter in a small saucepan.
  13. Add water and sugar.
  14. Boil 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  15. Slowly add Kahlua and continue to boil for 1 more minute.
  16. Using a fork, prick holes in the bottom of the cake while it's still cooling in the pan.
  17. Pour glaze on the cake while it's still in the pan.
  18. Let glaze soak in for 5 minutes.
  19. Invert cake onto your serving plate or cake stand and prepare frosting.
  20. Frosting Instructions:
  21. Melt chocolate squares in the microwave on high power for 1 minute.
  22. Add butter, stir and microwave on high for 20 seconds or until melted.
  23. Add whipping cream and stir until combined.
  24. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, stir until smooth.
  25. Put frosting in a zip-top bag, cut a very small hole in the corner and drizzle on the cake.
