I love hummus, but why is it so ridiculously expensive? $3 – $4 for 8 ounces of ground up garbanzo beans! So, grab an inexpensive can of garbanzo beans, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice and a food processor…for less than $1 you can make your own hummus!
Ingredients
- 1 can garbanzo beans, rinsed & drained
- ⅓ cup olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- salt, to taste
Instructions
- Combine garbanzos, olive oil and garlic and lemon juice in a food processor – puree until smooth.
- Add salt if desired.
- Refrigerate at least 4 hours before serving.
- Best served at room temperature.
Notes
Serve with pita chips or fresh veggies. Hummus is also delicious on my Mediterranean Pizza – see the recipe index on the left side of this page.
Hummus is delicious with fresh pita bread or use it as a dip for carrots. If you’re looking for a dinner idea, use your homemade hummus to make Mediterranean Pizza!
Sit back, enjoy your homemade hummus and smile because you’ve just saved yourself a little money!

My husband said, we should make this all the time! Great snack to have on hand with carrots!
