So your favorite sheets are looking a little rough around the edges and it’s about time to toss them out for a new set. Not so fast! Before you throw them away, check out the following recycling projects you can create with them:
1. Crocheted Rag Rug
Do you know how to crochet? If so, you can transform your worn bed sheets into beautiful rag rugs that can be used all over the house. Simply tear your sheets into strips about 1/2″ wide and tie them together at the ends to create sheet “yarn.” Use an extra large crochet hook to create fun and charming crocheted rag rugs.
2. Create Beautiful Curtains
Trim the curtains up a little to remove frayed or damaged edges and then sew a hem around each edge to create a new pair of curtains. It’s so easy to do that even a beginner could create them, and you may even have enough fabric left over to create a couple of throw pillows.
3. Create a Festive Garland
Tear the sheets into strips and use them to create a festive garland for special occasions. This is a very shabby chic look, and would be perfect hanging as a backdrop in your home. You can choose to hem each piece or simply leave them the way they are for a more rustic look.
4. Make Beautiful Cloth Napkins
Cloth napkins are the perfect project for old bed sheets, and make festive, fun additions to your table. They’re perfect for putting out when guests come over, and are definitely more eco-friendly than paper napkins.
5. Fabric-Wrapped Canvases
Use your old bed sheets to make new wall art by wrapping canvases with the fabric. This is an especially great idea if your bed sheets already match your bedroom decor and you’re in need of a few great pieces to fill up a wall. It’s super easy and can be done with a staple gun or even Modge Podge.
