I've been testing rewards apps since 2018, and it's rare for one to surprise me anymore.

Myner did. It's a new rewards app that turns your paper shopping receipts, your opinions, and other data into rewards, and it does a few things I've never seen another app do, including letting you redeem your earnings for a real gold bar.

In this review, I'll cover how Myner works, how much I earned in my first couple of weeks, how cashing out works, and whether it's worth a spot on your phone.

What Is the Myner App?

Myner is a free rewards app for Android and iOS. The idea is simple: you share data about yourself, mainly what you buy and where you shop, and in exchange you earn gold, the app's in-game currency. You can then redeem that gold for cash, and the app plans to add crypto and even physical gold.

It's also very new. Not many people know about it yet, and there's very little coverage out there, which is part of why I wanted to write this review.

Signing Up: A Rewards App That Feels Like a Game

Getting started is easy. You download the app and go through an interactive tutorial that walks you through how everything works.

This is where Myner immediately stood out to me. Most receipt and data apps are pretty bland, but Myner is heavily gamified.

You play as a miner in an old Western frontier town, digging for gold by turning your data into rewards.

There's a whole world to explore inside the town, and the theme runs through the entire app. It's far more creative than anything else I've seen in this space.

How Receipt Rewards Work

Right now, the main way to earn is by scanning your shopping receipts. Most receipt types are accepted, and the app has a built-in scanner that uses your phone's camera and captures the receipt automatically, so there's no fighting with blurry photos.

Here's how the process went when I scanned a receipt for some razors and a wedding card:

Open the scanner and let it capture your receipt.
Hit next and let Myner process it.
Enter the mine and tap rocks to dig for gold.

The mining step is a fun little mini-game. You tap rocks to uncover gold dust and nuggets, but you need to watch out for snakes. Get too greedy and a snake gets you, so part of the strategy is knowing when to escape with what you've found.

For that receipt, I earned 50 gold for the upload, another 50 for the itemized receipt, and a bonus mining round on top of that. Receipt rewards on their own are modest, but the mini-game can pay out bigger if you get lucky and avoid the snakes.

Other Ways To Earn Gold

Receipts aren't the only option. Myner also lets you earn by:

Answering surveys and polls at the saloon. These are short paid surveys and take almost no time.
Playing mini-games, like a dice game, which can pay out bonuses. This was actually one of my bigger sources of gold.
Enabling location tracking to earn location-based rewards for some easy passive income.

None of these pay a lot individually, but they stack up, and it's easy to earn a bit of gold every day.

There's also more on the way. The town map has several “coming soon” buildings, like the sheriff's office and the general store, and Myner's website mentions plans to add more earning features beyond receipts. It looks like the app is going to grow into a pretty robust rewards platform.

How Much I Earned With Myner – My Personal Experience

I used Myner for a couple of weeks. My routine was simple: scan my receipts, keep location rewards turned on, and play the mini-games now and then.

After those couple of weeks, I'd earned 1,000 gold, which is the minimum needed to cash out a $10 reward. It fit easily into my daily routine and never felt like a chore.

Cashing Out: Cash, Crypto & Real Gold

Myner's reward options are one of the most interesting things about it:

Cash: 1,000 gold gets you $10 sent directly to your bank account.
Crypto (coming soon): Myner plans to launch its own digital currency, Myner Coin, and to add Bitcoin and USDC as reward options.
Physical gold: Starting at 16,000 gold, you can redeem for a real 1-gram gold bar.

I've never seen physical gold offered in a rewards app before, and I love how it ties into the frontier-town theme. You're mining for gold in the app, and you can walk away with actual gold.

I redeemed a $10 cash reward to my bank account, and Myner paid me without any issues.

Is Myner Legit Or A Scam?

Based on my experience, Myner is legit. It paid me as advertised, and it's an app I feel comfortable recommending. I cashed out without any issue, and the app is working as advertised.

That said, keep your expectations realistic. Receipt rewards don't pay much on their own. The mini-games and data rewards pay a bit more. None of it is life-changing, but if you stack everything together, it adds up over time.

The Best Apps Like Myner

If you like the idea of making money from your everyday activities, there are plenty of other apps worth checking out.

Fetch – Fetch is one of the most popular receipt-scanning apps. You simply take pictures of your receipts and earn points that can be redeemed for gift cards. It's a good option if you want something extremely simple.
Upside – Upside is different from Myner because it focuses primarily on cash back when you buy things like gas, groceries, and food. You claim an offer before making a purchase and then receive cash back afterward.
Swagbucks – Swagbucks is one of the biggest get-paid-to platforms around. You can earn points from surveys, shopping, games, offers, and other activities, then redeem your points for gift cards or cash.
InboxDollars – InboxDollars lets you earn money from surveys, games, shopping, and other online activities. It's another good alternative if you're looking for more ways to earn beyond scanning receipts.
NCP Mobile – NCP Mobile is a market research app that rewards you for sharing information about the products you buy. You can scan purchases and earn rewards over time, making it one of the closer alternatives to Myner.
Receipt Hog – Receipt Hog turns your receipts into coins that you can eventually redeem for cash or gift cards. It's another simple option if you don't mind taking pictures of your receipts after shopping.

Final Thoughts

Myner is one of the most fun rewards apps I've tried. The gamified Western theme is a refreshing change from the usual receipt-scanning apps, the cash-out threshold is reachable in a couple of weeks, and the upcoming features (new buildings, crypto rewards, and more ways to earn) make it an app worth keeping an eye on.
