It’s your husband’s 50th birthday. Do you:
A. Add to your credit card debt to buy him a big gift
B. Waste your money on a tacky over-the-hill gift
C. Opt for a cheap and cheerful gift
The Budget Diet Girl says…
Cheap and cheerful gift, correct answer.
True or False…Big Bucks = Big Birthdays
Big bucks are not always required to celebrate milestone birthdays especially if you can’t afford it. Cheap and cheerful gifts really give meaning to “it’s the thought that counts.”
50 Years of Memories
This one takes a bit of legwork, but it costs almost nothing! About a month before my husband’s 50th birthday, I sent a letter to friends and family asking them to send me their favorite story/memory of him. After lots of follow-up emails and phone calls, I finally had 50 hilarious and heartfelt memories. I put each one in an airmail envelope and tied them with string! Tonight, we celebrate his 50th birthday, and I can’t wait to give him this gift! Thanks to NothingButBonfires.com for this cheap and cheerful idea!
Photo Book – Everyone loves taking pictures, but how many people actually take the time to make a photo book? Gather up old photos and create a photo book? It’s a gift that will be treasured for years to come, and photo books start at just $12.99!
Vinyl Record Bowl – A record bowl made from an old vinyl album is one of my favorite gifts for friends celebrating milestone birthdays! Visit thrift stores or Goodwill to find an old album that will bring back memories. Can you believe stores charge $30 for vinyl record bowls, and you can make one for less than $2 in just a matter of minutes! How to Make a Vinyl Record Bowl super-easy instructions.
40 Beers for 40 Years
I gave this to my husband on his 40th birthday, and I think it was his favorite all time gift! Don’t worry, the guy at the local liquor store helped me select the assortment! Of course, it doesn’t have to be beer. How about 40 lottery tickets for 40 lucky years or 40 golf balls or 40 chocolate bars (I want those!).
This one’s for the girls! If you’re hosting a milestone birthday celebration, in lieu of tacky “over the hill” gifts, ask your guests to each bring a sterling silver charm that reminds them of the birthday girl. You buy the charm bracelet and have somebody with “young eyes” put them on! My go-to source for inexpensive sterling silver charms is TheCharmFactory.com or Amazon – you’ll find charms for as little as $4!
