Make Your Own Brownie Mix
Next time your daughter comes home from school and says, "I need to bring brownies to school tomorrow" - you won't have to race out to the store if you have this easy brownie mix in your pantry. Stir together 5 simple ingredients and in less than 5 minutes you'll have enough brownie mix to make 7 pans of brownies! Did I mention that those 7 pans of brownies will cost less than $5 total! P.S. - You'll be able to pronounce every ingredient in these brownies...try that with a store bought mix! Thanks to my friend Michelle for sharing this fabulously frugal recipe to make your own brownie mix.
- 8 cups sugar
- 6 cups flour
- 2 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1½ tablespoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon salt
- Mix together all dry ingredients and store in a zip-top bag.
- To prepare an 8 x 8 pan of brownies: 2¼ cups brownie mix, 2 eggs, ⅓ cup oil or melted butter, 2 teaspoons vanilla and ½ cup chopped nuts (optional). Mix well and bake at 350 in a greased 8 x 8 pan for 30 - 35 minutes.
