Here's a recipe for a chocolate sheet cake that's BIG, YUMMY and FASTER THAN OF BOX CAKE MIX! It's frugalicious and fast! So, the next time you're craving chocolate cake, BAKE IT...DON'T BUY IT!

Ingredients

  • Cake Ingredients:
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Frosting Ingredients:
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans or walnuts optional
  • M & M's to sprinkle on top optional but festive for a party!

Instructions

  1. Cake Instructions:
  2. Preheat oven to 400.
  3. Grease and lightly flour a 10" x 15" pan.
  4. Bring 2 sticks butter, 1 cup water & 1/4 cup cocoa powder to a boil.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together flour and sugar.
  6. Pour boiled mixture over dry mixture.
  7. Add eggs, buttermilk, baking soda and vanilla.
  8. Bake at 400 for 20 minutes.
  9. Frosting instructions:
  10. Make frosting as soon as the cake comes out of the oven (no need to cool!)
  11. In a saucepan, combine 1 stick butter, 1/4 cup cocoa powder & 6 tablespoon milk.
  12. Bring to a boil.
  13. Add 1 box powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 1/2 cups nuts (optional).
  14. Sprinkle with M&M's if desired
